If could have been worse. If the girlfriend hadn't come over after the Steelers game I'd have ended up watching Nascar too. Caught a bit of the boxing as well, Jaysus Pacquiao is something else.

Jesus that's relentless, Emmet. I actually watched the Celtics game too - or most of it.

I was not among the delusionally optimistic. I went straight home after the match, not stopping for so much as a single pint, figuring I might have more luck watching some of the sports I had taped/was taping.

It started off promisingly in College Football with unfancied Iowa making a strong comeback to force Ohio State to overtime. A win would have denied Ohio State a fifth straight conference title, sadly the underdog messed up in overtime and Ohio State won. It didn't matter though as the game was at the bottom of my priorities.

Then on to the NBA game I'd taped on Friday night. Boston at home to Atlanta, surely the Celtics would right my mood. Having won their last six home game against the Hawks it looked promising as Boston held a slender half-time lead, having earlier trailed by 8. Atlanta stormed through the Celtics, and my hopes in the second half however, easing to a 97-86 win.

I was hardly confident when I arose on Sunday morning. Flicking on the second College Football game of the weekend that I'd taped, my beloved Notre Dame travelled to face the University of Pittsburgh, and promptly gave the game away.

Some respite came over the phone. Crokes minors won the county hurling title. Finally the tide was turning.

Then came the Aussies. Like it's hard to not like it when Rocky Elsom scores but I was having a mare of a weekend on the results front. Praise be to BOD. Saved the weekend for me, especially after the Steelers messed up later that night.
