It’s over a week now since the NBA’s ‘King’ LeBron James got dunked on by sophomore student Jordan Crawford at a summer camp. No big deal? Maybe, but when Nike – LeBron’s sponsors – confiscated the tapes, it prompted a wave of massive negative publicity.
In the meantime we’ll have to settle for a “LeBron James Gets Dunked On” compilation video.

The reaction by Nike really backfired badly. The video, no matter how much of a facial it is, wouldn’t make LeBron look nearly as bad as the decision to hide it.
It really points to the over-eagerness by a lot of PR types in recent times to rush to the panic button. The internet has played into this a lot with firms afraid of the loss of control of information. Hell even I’ve been asked to take videos down and I hardly have massive viewing figures (incidentally when it happened I politely told them to shove it).
If you think about it, had Nike let it get out there and LeBron said ‘Yeah, whatever’ most people wouldn’t have thought twice about it.
The best stance large firms can often take is to not make a big deal out of something as any reaction, but especially a defensive one, will only fuel the fire.
